Puppies

"How old should my puppy be when they get their first groom or nail trim?"

The short answer is..... 6-12 weeks old (hopefully they have at least had a bath by 6 weeks old)...mainly because training starts as soon as you bring them home, and conditioning to being handled and groomed (getting used to our equipment and process- ect.) is also a training process. Groomers are also trainers, and every time you have your dog handled or groomed we are teaching them how to act and behave for us while we work on them with our equipment....so, the earlier you have them handled by a groomer...the better!

If you start them early, they will learn at an early age that grooming is a part of life, and it will be much less stressful for them thru out their lives...the chances of having to sedate a dog for grooming purposes when they started being groomed at a young age is very low.

However, if you wait until the dog is almost a year old, and you have not conditioned them to accept being handled and groomed at home as much as they will be by groomers....then the chances of them needing to be sedated for a groom for an undetermined length of time during their lives goes up exponentially.
